Sunday, January 18, 2009

Hello

In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and freedom and equality for all people, I would like to teach you how to play the song "Amazing Grace".

You may know the background behind the composer of this great spiritual. It was written by John Newton (1725-1807). Newton was the captain of a slaveship who experienced a religious conversion en route to America. He turned his ship around and returned to Africa, freeing all of the African men and women.

I am teaching you this song in a simplified version in the key of C. I am also showing you the accompaniment method for playing this song, i.e. no melody. I have placed the chord symbols after the word or syllable that it should be played with.

Amaz(C)ing Grace(C7) how sweet(F) the sound(C)
