Hello

This issue of eNotes contains an interview with William Brohn, arranger and orchestrator. He is best known for his musical scores for Miss Saigon, Ragtime and Wicked although he has scored countless others for Broadway and the Royal London Theater including Secret Garden, Showboat, Oliver, Martin Guerre, Mary Poppins and many others.

In 1998, he won the Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for the musical Ragtime. In 1989, Mr. Brohn began his collaboration with acclaimed producer Cameron MacKintosh (Phantom, Les Miserables..)and he continues collaborating with him today.

Mr. Brohn has provided arrangements for Liza Minnelli, Placido Domingo and Marilyn Horne. He has also worked with Andre Previn and John Williams as well arranging music for international violinist, Joshua Bell.

Here's a taste of his orchestrations from the mega-hit Wicked. I recommend listening to tracks #2, #6 and #9. You can listen to the full song, not just a snippet!

This interview has some crackling to it because William was on a cell phone at the time. You can still hear him clearly but I just wanted to give you the heads up. It's worth the little bit of distraction. Enjoy!!

I would like to thank Lou Bertolami, subscriber to eNotes, who introduced me to William Brohn. This interview would not have happenned without him. Thanks, Lou!
Talk in a week or so. More classes coming up.

Happy Spring.
