What makes a song hold together? Is it a riff or hook? Perhaps. Maybe it's a certain driving or syncopated rhythm. Yeah, that could be the case. But there's something else no one talks about very much.
The bass line!! What, you say? Who cares about that. Well, the bass line is the foundation of the harmony. Sometimes, a composer will write chords with this scaler or chromatic bass line in mind.
Using the example of a famous ballad by Michel LeGrand, you are going to listen to this beautiful chord progression with a chromatic bass line threading all of the chords together!
