Potluck and Parlor- Jazz Concert
As I mentioned in the last eNotes, I was going to be hosting a potluck/concert at my home in Burlington, MA on September 25th, friday. This took place with Grammy-Award winning singer, Kim Nazarian, and pianist/professor, Mark Shilansky. It was an amazing show. I wanted to send you some pictures but am having technical difficulties. There is also a chance that I will be able to send you an mp3 of Kim singing one song! Then you will hear for yourself how special they were.
Kim, who usually sings for crowds of at least 200 people, told me before the show that of the 3 concerts she was going to be doing in Boston in the past 3 days, this home concert was the one that was most special to her. She was very very excited about it. But why? How could singing for 25 people be exciting? Well, I realized while she was singing just what it was. It was the intimate connection with people.
We saw her as a human being, we hung out with her, munched on pie together and she saw us as real people too. We were not performer and audience but people enjoying the grandeur of music and it's power to evoke feeling.
It was a magical experience to be a part of and everyone there was transfixed. It was more than music, it was artistry, connection and beauty. I will keep you informed of the next Potluck and Parlor Jazz Concert that I will be sponsoring.
Upcoming Interview with Susan Werner
I interviewed this incredible singer/pianist/performer about 3 days ago and am working on transcribing it for you. Hopefully by the next issue of eNotes, it'll be ready to go. She had fascinating insight into playing and writing music. Remember, she is coming to The Center for the Arts in Natick (TCAN) this Friday night, October 2nd. I will be there! If you are from the Boston Area, strongly consider going! Here is a link to the Natick Center to get tickets.
The Center for the Arts in Natick
Keep your eyes open in one week for the next issue of eNotes, coming directly to your doorstep! There will be an Audio lesson with that one about, well, you'll have to wait and see! Perhaps a cool chord voicing, chord voicing, or rhythm pattern.
Until then, be well and keep playing.
Yours truly,
Debbie Gruber, B.M.,M.M.
